Board Member Spotlight

LCS Board member, Gloria Picket is Operations Manager for Women’s Re-Entry Network (WREN), a program of Community Re-Entry at Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry. She has been involved with Women’s Re-Entry Network for 17 years and, when asked what gives her satisfaction in her position she said, “I enjoy the opportunity given to me over the years to expand my role and to learn. It’s heartening to see women begin to rebuild their lives and become empowered to live their lives with dignity, meaning and purpose.”

Gloria has served as a member of the LCS board since 2008; her decision to become involved came after experiencing the need for a chaplain. “During the last months of my mother’s life, she needed to be hospitalized because of a broken hip. She then went into a nursing home. At the hospital and the nursing home, she did not have the benefit of a compassionate chaplain. I know we would have appreciated the support of an LCS chaplain; it would have changed our experience.” She said.

Gloria has found similarities between her service on the LCS board and role in offering women hope as they rebuild their lives. “Our program is like LCS because our women have experienced the brokenness of human life and, through our services, they receive support and hope.”

“I also like working with the people on the board,” she added. “They are welcoming, supportive and knowledgeable about the mission and purpose of LCS. I appreciate working with and learning from them. I enjoy helping out at events and getting to know the chaplains. It’s good to see them face to face and learn more about what they do. I have been quite moved by some of their stories. There is a feeling that surrounds the LCS organization, the way that everyone works together. It is a comforting atmosphere; I enjoy being a part of it.”

Gloria is a member of Cory United Methodist Church in Cleveland and serves with the United Methodist Women. She adores her daughter Andrielle and son-in-law Anthony and is the proud grandmother of two wonderful boys – Alexander, 18 years old and Anthony James, 7 years old. Gloria also enjoys swimming and spending time with her family and friends.
