2015 Faithful Servant Award

The Rev. Mark Brauer and his wife, Megan Crow Brauer

The Rev. Mark Brauer, of Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry, was presented with Chaplain Partnership’s 1st Annual Faithful Servant Award at their 7th Annual Brew Fest held October 14, 2015 at Market Garden Brewery.

The Faithful Servant Award has a long tradition of recognizing distinguished service to the people of northeast Ohio through Lutheran-affiliated endeavors, whether they are based in congregations, social ministry agencies, schools or other organizations that serve our area. Previously, the award was presented by Lutheran Agencies Organized in Service (LAOS), a confederation of Lutheran social service agencies, but the decision was made by its board to permit each member agency the opportunity to present its own award recognizing individuals who have made northeast Ohio a better place to live.

Rev. Brauer has distinguished himself for four decades as a tireless advocate of the disenfranchised and marginalized, especially disadvantaged youth. The founding and current director of Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry’s (LMM) “Support to At-Risk Teens” program, he is the heart and passion behind the programs. He is the driving force in working to promote Christian healing through service and advocacy with youth who are displaced and forgotten. He is a tireless advocate for youth in Cleveland who are homeless or on the streets and in addition to being involved with advocacy work related to young people who are in need, he is actively engaged with the Westside Family Resource Network community collaborative, Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court Citizen’s Review Board and Cuyahoga County Children & Family Services providers’ group.

He has been an active member of his congregation, Grace Lutheran Church in Cleveland Heights, for decades until moving west last year (though he still attends). During his time at Grace, he belonged to the Mission Team as a way to serve the greater community and was also Mission Team Leader and led volunteer initiatives and fundraising drives to support community outreach projects.

He has also been a mentor to other professionals with the Treu-Mart Youth Development Fellowship Program at Case and served on the board of LAOS. He is a true champion of selfless devotion to Lutheran service and outreach in Northeast Ohio.

Congratulations Rev. Brauer, and best wishes for continued success!
